As someone who pursued athletics in my youth, I developed a passion early on to discover what made top athletes unique.
I quickly concluded it was not just physical abilities, but that of mental strength.
My undergraduate studies gave me an exposure to the mental health component of sports performance.
It wasn’t until my graduate studies that I realized mental health was equally important for athletes as they encountered career transitions such as injury, crisis, and retirement.
This realization was my ‘light bulb’ moment that athletes should have trained professionals available to help prepare them for these life transitions.
My concern and passion is that too many athletes are not adequately ready for the life changes that will occur as the life they knew—is forever changed.
